We are very glad to announce that now we have our official Symbian belle theme, titled Symbian Developers and currently only available at Symbian Developers’s forum.

This theme is designed by theme master Blade and is based on the Web-theme of this blog with elements used from his popular theme series Elegance and icons improved with his S40 series icon pack. The theme is exceptionally beautiful and we promise that you will enjoy it. Let me guide you towards the features of the theme and try to mention why will you love it!

Installation

The SD theme is about 3.6 MB in size when downloading, and takes about 11 MB of your phone memory/memory card space to install. It can be independently installed to any drive of your phone, as all the themes can be.

First Look

It’s said, “the first impression is the last impression”. And in its first impression the theme amazes you with its quality and color. Shiney blue color and inspirational Symbian Developers tagline may lead you to explore for more. Blade has implemented Menu/Back/Options buttons in form of cool angled symbols instead of using the classical square tabs. And icons are just fabulous.

Performance

Theme was brilliantly fast, as far as my phone (an FP1 device) was concerned. However, if you are using a belle device then you may need to restart your phone to make sure that all elements of the theme is applied. After applying the theme you will experience that the theme is damn fast and tabs are as smooth as default Nokia Evolve theme.

Major Elements

The dialer is is pretty nice and the color is little dim, still blue, in comparison to homescreen.

The belle top bar is highely customized with two colors combination of Blue and White.

Contacts and Calendar

As I said, the theme is very fast, you won’t feel any problem while scrolling an index like contacts, what ever the number of contacts you have.
Calendar looks cool with black and blue combination.

The blue background is everywhere!

Web Browsing

We all know that the default nokia browser is not very good in look but few themes like this improves its UI a little bit. SD theme does the same.

The navigation bar in the web browser is not customized and there is not even a single pixel of blue color in navigation. I think it is very good for long term usage of Web Browser. However the bookmarks menu is again full of sky blue.

Keyboards

The most important elements of Symbian devices are the keyboards used at various places. And here this theme goes a little down. Color is very nice and tabs are totally flat, but you need to take care of brightness of screen while writing on the screen. The keyboard was updated and now feels convenient to eyes.

If you text/IM a lot then take care of your eyes, while using this theme. It was a painful experience to type messages last night. By the way, the keyboard is very fast and even in very sharp daylight, you will be able to use this without any eyevision problem.

Music Elements

Browsing albums and changing songs were the fun. Nicely customized music player is a huge plus point for the theme.

Others

I test each theme keyboard with Microsoft apps, since I found some keyboards buggy and closing One Note randomly. Thanks to the developer, this didn’t happen with this theme within half hour usage of One Note. But as I said earlier, typing was a painful experience.

Overall, this theme is highly recommended for all symbian lovers but must for SD members and will be lovely to all of those who love blue color.

Hi guys, here is my review of SPureview theme for Nokia Belle by our good friend ARX who was kind enough to provide me with a copy of his theme to review, I am trying a new approach for this one so please bear with me if its rubbish .

This is a very nice theme which I do like, now normally on my reviews I’m a bit too nice but I’ll say it as I see it this time.

The look of the theme is extremely nice it includes many colours mainly different shades of grey for the main User interface but the icons are Windows phone based which gives it a nice touch.

Usually I hate the guts out of the Windows phone look it’s too boring but ARX has managed what many others haven’t and made it mix and match perfectly. It has actually made me wish for the first time ever that the old feature on S60 v5 was still available on Belle that made the icons bigger with the font it would look completely excellent, and I’m sure that the icons would stay in there perfect quality too.

There as usual are custom icons for 3^rd party apps, there is a fair few but unlike most themes doesn’t cover apps like Blob or Cutepress but it will still do fine although I would recommend ARX to add more.

Now the feel of the theme is very smooth and elegant I’ve experienced no lags or jutters at all with my experience of this theme and well that’s what I like to see my Belle running smooth with such a nice theme running too.

To round up this rather short and different approach to a review I just have to say its dam worth paying for and you will enjoy every moment of using this theme.

Once you did some nice job, the expectations of people and you yourself increase forcing you to do better. I received a review copy of carla v2 theme by Blade which is now published at nokia store. This is a top class, high quality theme after which the developer (Blade) claims that you would start loving your phone (interface). Let’s see what is the reality and why would you love this theme?

Actually Blade, moderately popular theme designer, is well-known for his Elegance (series of six themes) and Symbian Developers official themes.

As an emerging developer, blade designed Carla (V1) on June 2012. Carla was a beauty but lacked a lot of things like third party icons and some sort of element customizations. At the moment, IND190, Adelino, Raffa, Daeva112 have made such a trend that users feel cheated if the theme has less number of customised third party icons. Daeva112′s REA and EVA, IND190′s iBoss, Adelino’s Gemma icon packs and Raffa’s cool themes consists a large number of third party icons. Blade is nowhere less to them. Elegance was a success saga for him but the best what he got was from Symbian Developers 2, which topped the free theme category at Nokia Store.
carla v2 is purely different from all themes on the platform . Actually I have been a tester of this theme in earliest days of its development and I saw it improving day by day. Keyboard was edited almost six times and elements thrice. carla v2 is aimed to be a perfect theme, in terms of both number of icons as well as the customization of elements.

As a hardcore mobile user and due to regular messaging, I care about the keyboard, dialer and wallpaper at first. This theme got one of the best keyboard elements ever. A dark brown user interface of keyboard is highly suitable for both day and night use. The character preview is very sweet as dark blue color pop-up rises on each tap with black text in it. The shift button is smart enough and looks pretty and distinct to other keys. The gap between two characters on the keyboard is finely balanced and this balance doesn’t bother you while typing.

Dialer has a perfect combination of Dark Grey and Dark Blue colors. Buttons are rectangly curated and no annoying gimmicks or shines are there.

Personally I don’t like abstract wallpapers but universally many does. This theme includes a dark high quality geometric wallpaper at default. Good for me, this theme is amazing with custom wallpapers too. With almost transparent menu-bar, you can enjoy any kind of wallpaper on your phone.

Now, let’s talk about themed-icons. Inspired from popular anna styled icons, this theme features about a thousand customized third party icons in colorful grunge style. Colors in each customised icon are chosen wisely. Colors are neither too shiny nor much grunged. Those are light, vibrant and stunning in look and easily viewable in all kind of light situations. Moreover, the icons are light weighted and don’t slow your phone. The menu background is flexible and it adopts the wallpaper you set on homescreen. After menu, when you open system apps like messaging, settings or some third party apps like Whatsapp, Nimbuzz, QCal Nitro etc. you will find that the background this theme uses is nested black, excellently designed with customised phone elements.

Seems like the developer has worked very hard on Music Player and Video Player customizations. Theme uses dark background with shiny dark buttons in music player and rounded tiny white play/pause, forward and backward buttons in Video Player. It’s very nice to see that the developer has focused so brilliantly even on micro elements of the theme.

A lot of work has been done on toggle bar a.k.a notification bar. All elements on notification bar are customised.

Some fabulous work has been done with web and popup elements too. For the beauty, this theme uses dark blue highlights when making texts.
To end this small review of carla v2, I will say only one sentence. If this theme is not perfect then it is nor even less than any themes on Symbian platform. This is a must have theme, if you like to put innovations and darkness to your phone.

Nokia store is full of vivid types of themes allowing you to customise your Nokia device in number of ways. Plenty of UI improvements are seen day by day. In this scenario only those themes can survive which have some kind of uniqueness. Transparent themes are rare, and not fully customised.
White Transparency is a theme of transparent routine and abstract nature. A uniquely designed black and white (almost) theme with shaded red and light blue effects, by rising themestar Dhaval Khanna gives your phone a very splendid look. Well, don’t get confused by the name, there is nothing like ‘your device will be fully transparent,’ it contains transparent elements though. Theme is purely based on antimatter concept, the fact that active parts like icons and visible elements would be in white with shiny and smooth black background.

Actually it’s Dhaval’s third theme after Blazing Red and the best seller Awesome Transparency (unexperienced Dhaval has spelt the theme name wrong there on store ). As days are passing, he is improving himself and the quality of themes by adding skinned third party icons and decorating default phone UI. In this theme, although Dhaval has not been able to skin third party icons (except a few very important ones), he has made many quality improvements in phone UI.
The skinned elements and the background both are of true high definition qualities.

Wallpaper

The default wallpaper is steel grey in colour and shiny enough to engage the white ‘unbordered’ icons of the theme beautifully. The wallpaper is one of the strongest point of this theme and the same covers all the phone background. The navigation bar (menu bar) is almost opaque and shiney dark-red in colour.

Icons

We can’t ignore the fact that the customization of third party icons is the most important thing that a themer is required too. Icons are superb and unique. This kind of work need a lot of time and skills. Here Dhaval rocks, he has designed the icon pack brilliantly. Till the moment, Dhaval has failed to skin third party icons at a huge level of number. Okay that he has skinned all system icons and some important ones, like Opera Mini and whatsapp, he still need to work in this area. Maximum people buy themes to get all the third party icons skinned in their phone. When asked, Dhaval claimed that he had skinned a number of third party (250+) icons for next update.

Elements

Now, probably the strongest part of the theme. All elements are beautifully designed for the textured background. The notification toggles are inspired by metro UI, in my opinion, and other things are customised according to Belle’s default look with transparent makeup. Music player looks great with refresh/fp2 elements being customised. It is great piece of work there is music section and especially when you’re new to themeing, this section is a challenge. Dhaval settles all the elements very nicely, there is nothing like extraordinary though.

White Transparency is a recommended theme for all Nokia Belle Refresh, Belle Feature Pack1/2 devices.

MeeGo by blade is an exact replica of the UI found on the prized nokia n9, myself and alot of other Symbian users were longing for a theme with such inch perfect similarities to MeeGo. This theme takes into consideration most if not all the elements that could be themed to make your beloved Symbian device to look like that of the n9. Blade even themed the icons on the music player to look like MeeGo.

Dhaval Khanna (DK), the theme designer for Nokia Belle devices, has introduced a paid version of his Heavy Metal Basic theme (launched a while ago). The update is named as “Heavy Metal Pro” and consists some customized third party app-icons as well as some newer & better elements.

Heavy Metal, the name, doesn’t totally match to the look of theme and to add more contradictions it is fast & less shiny. Elements are very simple but eye catchy and even lighter than those of default Nokia evolve theme. Menu and Sub-menu options are semi-transparent while the notification bar is totally opaque. Color distribution is not balanced. On the home screen you can see Blue bottom bar, which turns grungy-white in menu and again, it’s metallic white in notification bar. Background of theme is uniform though it has different color slopes at different locations. The inner elements like “dial-pad” and “keyboard” are pretty decent and these appear to be inspired from the Dhaval’s previous themes.

Notification Bar is dark and probably the most beautiful part of the theme. Toggle buttons are totally changed and  look pretty with red and blue color combination.

Dhaval is well-known for his theme elements not for icons. His previous themes had not  many third party icons and this one doesn’t appear to be an exception to some extent. Theme is described to be packed with 75 third party icons. This means, you can find Gravity!, Opera Mini, Tweetian, Asphalt 5, Asphalt 6 etc. popular applications and games’ icons customized but not those of Opera Mobile, Smart Office, CuteTube. Some icons disappear in main menu with only text being displayed. (Edit= Dhaval has convinced me regarding a fix of this in next update.)

Developer has done really great job on readability. Theme is highly readable in both the day and night situations. A nice green loading circle demonstrates the potential of themer. Music Player contains a simple color bug. “Shuffle” and “Repeat” options on bottom bar don’t seem to be highlighted, even though you clicked them. That should be fixed in next update.

Heavy Metal themes can be recommended to those who are looking for a light theme with some dark and transparent flavors. The theme designer has provided a lot of commercial options if one likes to grab it. First of all, the basic version is free and on the other hand the pro version costs only 1 euro/5 Rs. on Nokia Store. Heavy Metal Basic can be downloaded for free via Store and the Pro version can be grabbed using this download link.

Canis Majoris is an artistic dark theme by Chirag Kapuriya, which mainly emphasis on icon customization and intriguing look. This theme comes with over 1000 customized icons preloaded (as the designer claims) and a typical wallpaper.

This theme reminds me of “The Burning Platform” by PiZero. It's very dark but equally flamboyant as T.B.P.. Major elements are well deliberated, but some of the minor elements lack the attention of theme designer. Meanwhile, Chirag has made two more such themes with the same interface but different color and icons. The hue of elements is wisely chosen in every theme and so are the shade of icons. Have a look, how the things look on your phone?

Canis Majoris is an astronomical body and so is the wallpaper based upon a stellar abstract. Neither too fancy, nor too simple; the wallpaper is set to glow wisely. The background uses obscure view of the wallpaper you apply and that clearly suits the divergence of icons and text in main menu. The bottom bar is completely opaque and again the black color rules here. This bottom bar is actually everywhere, even, on the homescreen it looks like a striking black strip.

Dialer has red color imposed on black background with additional key pressing effects. The drop-down menu is well designed and is completely focused on simplicity. The icons are Anna shaped with black background and cool red rounds. Very eye catchy indeed.

Canis Majoris is a highly recommended theme which can be downloaded from Nokia Store for a couple of euros. The other variants Pluto (Free) and Rigel (Paid) are also available on Nokia Store.

After the declaration of ‘the end’ for Symbian themeing — I discovered several beautiful themes on Nokia Store. Each better than other, beautiful and elegant. IND190, the Indonesia based theme designer has five of them. His recent themes are aimed to provide iOS like shiny view to a Symbian smart phones : in chronological order these are named as: Fascination, Tangled Reborn, iPurple, iMatte and Rusted.

Based on the same icon set called Fascinate icons all these are available at Nokia Store for different price tags. Although the icons are same for each theme, these are different to each other in many aspects like the color combination, wallpapers and the element designing.

Fascination is the very first theme of these series having a simple colorful design and stunning four colored stripped wallpaper. Tangled reborn is a badly improved and gradient version of flat and beautiful Tangled series, which I loved a lot in past. iPurple and iMatte are nothing but just colored permutations of Fascination with simple outdated wallpapers. Rusted, my favorite of this series : amazing metro look based on ICS elements (probably), super high definition wallpaper and as usual the beautiful Fascinate icons (plus it’s cheap). All themes are recommended, if asked, I’d be chosing the unique Rusted theme as my favorite available for a dollar price tag at Nokia Store.

It was a long time ago we wrote anything about S60V5 on the blog, so I thought I would give you some theme recommendations. I’ve found some really good themes at Nokia Store by Arjun Arora, and I suggest you to check them out! You get some nice Anna styled icons, new beautiful elements and some nice backgrounds too.

Our great friend Harshit Gajjar has once again made a new good theme for Nokia Belle devices. It’s called “Pure Green n Black” and looks very great! Unfortunately, this might be his last theme for Symbian, but lets hope it isn’t. The theme is currently in Nokia Store’s QA, but will be released in a pretty short time if everything goes well.
